Blogging - I write technical tutorials on Medium covering diverse topics such as programming the Raspberry Pi, Apache Cordova, Amazon Alexa and C coding for Arduino.

Evade - An infinite space shooter game for Arduboy. I was a major contributor to this game built in C as a holiday gift for Modus Create clients.
Transit Pass Demo - A hardware and sofrware project using touch card readers, arcade buttons, Raspberry Pis, cardboard boxes, Python, Node.js and Redis. Watch the video too.

Flappy Pi - A Python implementation of the popular Flappy Bird game running on a Raspberry Pi A+ with LED matrix screen embedded in an original Nintendo Gameboy.
Alexa BART - An Alexa Skill written in Python that uses my BART API to provide information about the Bay Area Rapid Transit network.
BART TV - A TVML/TVJS app that provides information about the Bay Area Rapid Transit network on the Apple TV.
BART FB Chatbot - A basic chatbot example that provides information about the Bay Area Rapid Transit network in Facebook Messenger.
Google Maps Polygons - Article about how to place markers inside polygons on Google Maps.
conectric-usb-gateway - npm module that exposes a high level, event based interface to process sensor data from Conectric's mesh network IoT product.

Conectric Networks is turning hotels into smart IoT grid 2.0 energy assets delivering massive demand and energy control. Our turn-key "Savings as a Service" solution provides building owners and operators a guaranteed energy saving with no out of pocket expenses. Using an amalgamation of data, AI, software and wireless technology we deliver high performance, intelligent networks of devices into hotel buildings.

My role at Conectric was Director of Platform Strategy and Engineering. I was responsible for the architecture, implementation and operation of the cloud elements of the company's platform solution including internal and customer facing APIs, data warehousing, AI and IoT sensor network backends. I worked closely with Product Management to define, refine and implement our product roadmap.

I enjoyed writing code with Node.js, running it on the Google Cloud platform and also worked with Python on Raspberry Pi, MQTT Messaging, the BigQuery and Firebase databases and Android app development.

I contributed to the Conectric Blog and YouTube channel.

Architect, Professional Services

2013 - 2017
Modus Create, Reston VA USA

Modus Create is a tight-knit, highly motivated global team with product strategy and solutions design expertise in digital media and publishing, enterprise, and mobile applications.

My role at Modus included being the practice lead for Apache Cordova / Adobe PhoneGap, working on complex hybrid applications for iOS and Android using a range of front end frameworks including but not limited to Sencha Touch, Angular JS and React. Customer engagements often required custom plugin implementation in Objective C or Swift and Java. I was frequently engaged in full stack development and acted as a consulting Systems Architect to define, spec and implement APIs for customers. I was a regular contributor to the Modus tech blog, authoring posts as well as reviewing and editing others.

I gained experience in rapid prototyping app concepts using fully native and Apache Cordova hybrid apps, Node JS backends and REST APIs using Swagger.

I performed Technical Product Management roles for our customers, introducing product management tooling and processes as well as Continuous Integration, agile project management, devops culture and management and grooming of a product backlog.

I also undertook customer engagements to provide a deep dive architecture and performance assessment and recommend and implement remediation strategies.

I provided technical consulting to a range of clients including a multi billion Dollar hospitality industry group, multiple startups looking to use Modus consulting to reduce risk in their early phases, to benefit from our industry experience to identify and fix issues, or provide technical training and process coaching.

Director of Enterprise Mobility

HintTech develops CMS driven websites and web applications for large organisations. My role was to champion Enterprise Mobility and work with our customers to bring their content to life on all connected devices. I worked with Viacom's MTV Networks to define and implement their mobile web strategy and CMS across multiple brands including VH-1, MTV, Nickelodeon and Spike TV.

Managed training and consulting for Netbiscuits globally. Developed and delivered three day product training course sold globally to leading design agencies implementing mobile web experiences using the Netbiscuits SaaS product.

Developed, prototyped and administered the technical certification testing to used to certify partner developers as competent Netbiscuits implementation partners.

Technical sales and onsite consulting selling SaaS mobile rendering solution to major enterprises including but not limited to MTV Networks, Time Inc, CBS, eBay, Paypal, Sears, Coca-Cola, Public Storage.

Lead developer responsible for migration of 100 Gannett newspaper and broadcast mobile web sites to the Conmio mobile web platform including work on USA Today. Developing in Groovy on Grails, also responsible for developing native applications strategy, hiring and management of mobile developers.

2008 - 2009

Developed applications for management of goods and passengers across the NZ border using J2EE (WebSphere). Prototyped and developed integrations between NZ Customs proprietary systems and Sagem SmartGate biometric border control gates. Moved an old code base to use industry standard build tools (ant), features of Java 5 and WebSphere 6.1. Introducted repeatable devops processes. Implemented webservices to support facilitation of free trade agreement between New Zealand and China.

Software Development Handheld Devices & Vehicle Routing

Development, rollout and operational management of bespoke industrial handheld device software for Pocket PC and Gotive H42 rugged devices. Design of barcode driven systems to manage grocery deliveries across a national fleet of vehicles, plus custom satellite navigation.

Development and design of driver metrics and incentive tracking systems, development and integration of fleet planning / vehicle routing systems to solve complex multidimensional traveling salesman problems.

Hardware testing and integration with Mercedes Sprinter and Axor/Actros heavy goods vehicles.

Handheld Applications Developer

RWE npower, Leeds UK

Hired to manage an RFP for handheld devices, I developed and implemened a device assessment framework and was part of the team that recommended a major device purchase of General Dynamics / Itronix Pocket PC devices.

Selected to implement utility meter reading software and communications protocols for Pocket PC devices using C, Visual BASIC and J2ME Java / JNI. Ensured successful nationwide rollout and migration / training for new devices.

Worked on design, implementation, and product management of MobilePA, an early mobile web portal (WAP), VoiceXML and native application (for Blackberry, Nokia and Palm Pilot devices).

Java development, mentoring, Oracle database and Solaris systems administrator. Acted as technical sales consultant for the company's MobilePA product, was part of the team that successfully raised venture capital from Carphone Warehouse to fund the ongoing development of the product. Traveled globally acting as technical consultant and technical sales liaison for customers needing on site support.
